Women’s Rugby World Cup Trophy Visits Plymstock Oaks RFC

Plymstock Oaks RFC proudly hosted a landmark moment for local rugby this week as the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy arrived at the club as part of the nationwide Community Rugby Trophy Tour. The event brought together young players, families and volunteers for an evening filled with excitement, inspiration and community spirit.

A total of 85 girls from across Plymouth and the surrounding areas took part in a fun, non‑contact rugby session led by the club’s coaching team. The pitch was buzzing with energy as players enjoyed skills activities, games and team challenges designed to build confidence and celebrate the joy of rugby.

The arrival of the iconic trophy was a highlight for many, offering young players the rare chance to see up close the sport’s most prestigious prize. The sense of pride and excitement across the club was unmistakable, with plenty of smiles, photos and unforgettable moments.

Conor Thomson, Head Girls Coach at Plymstock Oaks RFC, said: “This event was all about inspiring the next generation. Seeing so many girls enjoying themselves and embracing the sport is exactly what community rugby is about. We’re incredibly proud to have hosted the trophy and to support the growth of girls’ rugby in our area.”

The club extended heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who helped the event run smoothly, as well as to England Rugby for bringing the trophy to Plymouth and supporting grassroots development.

Plymstock Oaks RFC continues to expand its girls’ rugby programme and welcomes new players. If this event inspired your daughter to play rugby for a club, now is the perfect time to get involved. The club offers a fantastic pathway for girls of all ages, with friendly coaches, a great community and plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.
